Nomadic Desert Wool Shawl from Kutch | Handwoven
This is a classic desi wool dhabada shawl made from local Indian wool that is highly durable and resistant to temperature changes. The thermodynamic properties of this yarn and weave make them equally suitable for winter or summers. They are particularly suitable for outdoor use, and are traditionally worn by the desert nomads to protect themselves from the harsh desert winds and scorching sun.
Bhujodi shawls are handwoven in a five hundred year old tradition by a small community of 'vankars' in the Bhujodi region of Kutch, Gujarat. Woven on pit looms, the authentic shawls are made with handspun country wool, which is coarse in texture. As the art developed to cater to commercial needs, a variety of blends have been introduced that offer softer and easier-to-maintain versions. Those blended with tussar (moth) silk are extremely popular for their refined, regal look.
