Inaãra's first goal was to bring to you the innumerable textiles and weaving traditions of India. So much of this is endemic, and a result of the geographical influence, the native resources, cultural signatures, and demands of a community's lifestyle. Be it the finest of goat wool from the Himalayas or the stunning wild silks of the North East, each of these is unique to the to sub-continent that is our nation - India.
Heritage Shawls & Stoles

Inaãra works direct with artisan to bring you these rare and unusual shawls. Each shawl bears the mark of its weaver, for whom the weaves are their own original art.

Of the many powerful tools utilised by communities to express themselves is the loom and the needle. Much said and expressed without being spoken aloud. Be it a political stance, a service to God, a tribute to the nation, or a pure celebration of one's own culture. Clothes are not just clothes. Textiles are not just textiles. They are our past, present, and future laid out before us to admire, revere, and enjoy.

Bhujodi (Kutch) Shawls
Bhujodi shawls are handwoven in a five hundred year old tradition by a small community of 'vankars' in the Bhujodi region of Kutch, Gujarat. Woven on pit looms, the authentic shawls are made with handspun country wool, which is coarse in texture. As the art developed to cater to commercial needs, a variety of blends have been introduced that offer softer and easier to maintain versions. Those blended with tussar (moth) silk are extremely popular for their refined, regal look.

Eri "ahimsa" silk shawls
In the far foothills of the Himalaya originates a cruelty-free silk known as "eri". Eri silk is processed from the cocoon after the moth/butterfly leaves it. It is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The grain and texture of the silk itself is so graphic, the shawls need little embellishment. Mostly dyed naturally, they come in soulful, earthy colours that wrap you up in their subtle layers..
