Inaãra has always been about community. The communities we work with, and our core community here in Qatar. Expats in particular often suffer a dissonance and disconnect when moving to an unfamiliar environment. And we can all agree that the older one gets, the harder it is to form meaningful friendships. Fortunately, we are here for you, to support and give you all the information you need to build a life in Qatar. We are also very vocal and passionate about supporting issues surrounding mental health. Amplified when in a foreign land.

Pink power: raising awareness for breast cancer

Cancer is a scary word for us all. Some fear it actively, and some prefer to not think about it much, and carry on with their lives. But there is also a good number of people who are not quite aware of the risk factors and treatment journeys surrounding a cancer diagnosis. Not all cancers are the same and not all cancers are genetic.  There is one factor that is common and impacts the outcome for those who have received a diagnosis.

Early Detection.

And that's very true in the case of breast cancer as well. Did you know that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Qatar? It accounts for 31% of all cancers in women. * Regular screenings, early detection and timely treatment can significantly improve the chances of survival.

As a breast cancer survivor, founder of  Inaãra Rabia Fathima Qazi, has a very personal interest in the campaign. Through her treatment and after she has been very committed sharing her own journey with others to create greater awareness around the disease.

Prioritizing your emotional well-being

Your past, and your childhood tends to catch up with you as you enter your thirties. Add milestone changes in your life and fluctuating hormone levels, and it's a cauldron of emotional struggles. The bulk of trailing spouses to the middle east and in particular Qatar are women. And when you first land here, you might find yourself isolated, limited, and struggling with maintaining a positive outlook. Many couples choose to nurture their pregnancies in Qatar, and give birth in the country.

The absence of a support system, family and friends, unfamiliarity with the system can leave many feeling helpless and quite a few find themselves clinically depressed. But they don't know it. Post partum depression as well can be debilitating. But unfortunately most societies have conditioned their people to "shrug it off" "be strong" "get over it" "stop being pessimistic". What the previous generations don't realise is that clinical depression and anxiety can be severely debilitating conditions and have a huge impact on physical health. Normalising the topics is of utmost importance as is normalising seeking help for them. Poor mental health inevitably leads to poor physical health with chronic inflammation and stress related lifestyle diseases.

Here's a list of resources where you can find help and support for your mental health.
